Mary Walls

In loving memory of Mary Rose (Moriarty) Walls, August 30, 1939 - August 6, 2019, an exceptional, devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mary was born to Edwin D. "Ted" and Nita L. Moriarty and raised in El Dorado, Kansas. Mary attended St. John's Catholic Grade School; El Dorado Junior High, where she became fondly known as "Mo"; and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1957.

Mary first caught the eye of her future husband, Robert E. "Bob" Walls, during a party at Lake El Dorado in July of 1955. Their first date was August 17, 1955, at the "Trig" in Wichita where they joined their friends to enjoy dancing to the live music of Ray Anthony (of the Glenn Miller Orchestra). This was the start of their life-long romance. Mary and Bob wed on July 4th, 1957 and enjoyed 62 years of married life.

During their early years of marriage, Bob's employment as a computer scientist with Mobil Oil Corporation required numerous transfers to various locations. They enjoyed all the experiences of living and traveling extensively throughout the United States. In 1973, Bob was permanently assigned to Mobil's Corporate Headquarters in Dallas. They built a home and finished raising their two daughters-- Teresa Ann and Debra Lynn-- in the Dallas suburb of Richardson where they lived for 40 years. Then, to be in the same town as their daughters and their daughters' families, Mary and Bob relocated to College Station, TX in 2013.

Mary was, and will remain, the heart of her family. Mary's greatest joy in life-- and greatest contribution-- was being Bob's wife, Teresa and Debra's mom, and Robert's grandmother. Her world revolved around her precious grandson Robert. She was a constant encourager of her son-in-laws Jim and Joe, and deeply grateful to them for being such loving husbands to her daughters.

Beyond her family focus, she had a professional career, many hobbies, and was an accomplished artist. When her youngest daughter was in high school, Mary began a career as a human resources administrator with Texas Instruments, retiring in 1995. Her hobbies included gardening, antiquing, interior decorating, reading all genres of literature, and watching historical documentaries. She was a big fan of the TV show "Friends" and loved watching the Dallas Mavericks (when they were winning). She immensely enjoyed the scenery and discoveries during drives on country backroads. She cherished "sister trips" and long phone conversations with her sisters and closest friends. As a young girl, with the inherited talent and guiding hand of her father, she began developing her exceptional artistic gift. Later, through the influence of college courses, art classes, and artistically talented friends, she became an accomplished oil painter. Inspiration for the subjects of her paintings came from the masters she studied, landscapes and nature seen during her travels, her love of animals, and her joy when surrounded by flowers.

With her loving family and many wonderful friends sharing the journey, Mary lived a full and joyful life. On August 6th, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer, in the gentle care of Brazos Valley Hospice and with family by her side, she peacefully passed from this world into the loving arms of her Lord Jesus.

She was cremated and her remains were presented to her immediate family in a private "life celebration" service, officiated by Rev. Joe M. Gonzalez, on August 15, 2019, at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station. A "life tribute" video can be viewed on their website.

Mary is survived by Husband Robert "Bob" Walls; Daughter Teresa Ann (Walls) and son-in-law Joe Gonzalez, step-granddaughter Jessica and husband Manney Bustos, step-grandson Joey and wife Lauren Gonzalez, and step-great-grandsons Jace, Joel, and Jax Gonzalez; Daughter Debra Lynn (Walls) and son-in-law Jim Krebbs, and grandson Robert Krebbs-- all of College Station, TX; Brother Danial G. and sister-in-law Nancy Moriarty of Sugar Land, TX; and many loved brothers and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews living throughout the United States. The family also acknowledges Mary's "like a sister" Linda Colon of Richardson, TX and Mary's "like a daughter" Genifer (Spears) Nail of Lindale, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edwin "Ted" and Nita Moriarty of El Dorado, KS; her sister Carmelita "Carmie" and husband Robert Dinterman; and sister Ann Hilberath, all of Fairfax, Virginia.

In support of Mary's wishes, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made as contributions in her memory to MD Anderson for the purpose of research to cure cancer: MD Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or www.mdanderson.org/gifts.

May God bless and comfort her and all her loved ones, and may we join her in heaven to live in peace with our Lord and Savior for all eternity.
