Mercedes "Marshall" Lopez Jr. of Bryan passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14th from 5-8 pm, at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station. A Celebration of Life will be held at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station on Friday, November 15th at 10 am, Burial will proceed at Bryan City Cemetery.
Marshall was born July 4, 1935 in Cameron, Texas to Mercedes and Manuela Lopez, in his early years his family moved to Bryan. Marshall worked and retired from the City of Bryan where he was a supervisor for the Transportation department. He grew up playing baseball for many years, he was an amazing pitcher. He also coached for many years and help develop many young players in the area. He
loved going to watch Aggie baseball and football. He was very popular at Aggie Alley where he
cooked and fed many Aggie baseball players. He loved fishing and he enjoyed grilling for his
family and friends.
Marshall is preceded in death by his parents; his loving stepmother, Janie; his brothers,
George, Don and John; and his grandson, Arron Lopez.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Paula; 4 sons, George and his wife Marianne, Mercedes III, Manuel, and Abel and his wife Dora; his only daughter, Vera and her husband Diego Becerra Jr.
Surviving siblings include sisters, Emma Salas of Tyler, Zelma Jeter, Josie Cavazos; brothers,
Thomas and his wife Margaret, and Charles Lopez, all from Rockdale, Texas. As well as his 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
