James Richard Shoemate, 94, of Navasota, Texas, passed away on April 27, 2021. His friends and family will remember James as a strong, kind, and quiet man that will be missed dearly.

James was born on November 16, 1926, to his parents, Susan and Archie Shoemate, in Lomax, Illinois. After graduating high school, James enlisted in the US Navy, where he served during World War II. He was extremely proud of his service to his country, and was honored to have the privilege to travel on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. After his service, James started a career at Global Supply; his main job was to acquire parts to wells that broke down. He was able to travel the world with his work, which he greatly enjoyed. His work took him to Iran, where he lived long enough to speak and write Arabic.

James was a person who was always there if you needed him. He was kind and generous, and willing to help in any way he could. He was someone that you could count on and depend on. James was a great father to his daughter; the day she was born was one of his proudest moments.

James was reunited with his parents, Archie Alexander Shoemate and Susan Elizabeth Barker Shoemate; siblings, Archie Alexander Shoemate Jr, Charles Roland Shoemate, George Edward Shoemate, Ellen Shoemate Johnson, Dorothy Shoemate Juba, and Mary Catherine Shoemate Darough;

James will be missed by his daughter, Sylvia Shoemate; sibling, Myrna Louise Shoemate Kaegl; his loving nieces, Holly Peer, Susan Cummings, Angela Miklos, Deirdre Juba as wells as many assorted nieces and nephews; his sister in law Helen Shoemate; and his beloved dog, Chi-Chi.
