Barbara Barnett

Barbara Opal Barnett passed away peacefully on August 16, 2019, at the age of 82, surrounded by her entire family. She was born in Cliffside, North Carolina as the only child of the late Woodrow and Wilma (Blackburn) Moore on July 1, 1937. As a result of losing her father at a very young age and her mother suffering from a chronic illness, Barbara was raised in Cliffside, North Carolina by her beloved grandmother, Mallie Blackburn.

As a child, Barbara liked role playing as a teacher and often corralled cats to be her students, sang in the school choir and was an avid reader, something she continued throughout her life.
Barbara graduated from Cliffside High School with her lifelong best friend Bonnie Hines. Barbara met the love of her life, Bill, after being introduced by Bonnie's then boyfriend (later husband) Max. Max and Bill were also lifelong best friend who attended another local high school. Barbara and Bill had a very strong love and were blessed with 63 years of marriage. They enjoyed dancing, traveling and being with friends and family. Their son Terry was the light of Barbara's life, and she cherished his love and the man he became. She was extremely proud of his accomplishments as he rose through the ranks from a firefighter to an Assistant Chief of Operations with the Bryan Fire Department. She also bragged on her beloved grandson's, Justin who followed in Terry's footsteps as a firefighter and Brandon for becoming the first college graduate of the family. She doted on her grandsons and loved her great-grandson Braxton dearly. She loved all their activities and spent as much time as possible with them. Barbara enjoyed the Holidays as it represented family, love, and togetherness. Family was truly her passion and delight.

Barbara retired from Texas A&M University after working for 22 years as an administrative assistant for the Physical Plant. Retiring meant she had more time for her favorite things, camping (glamping), playing cards and games, and reading books. She liked catching up with old friends on Facebook and cooking. Her collections of angel and Snow Babies figurines were special to her, as were her pups Gretta and Toby. A true pet lover, she always talked about her deceased pets as well. Barbara was a fun loving, strong woman with a loving heart. She loved the Lord and had a strong belief in the power of prayer.
Barbara leaves behind her beloved husband Bill Barnett, her son Terry D. Barnett and his wife Cindy, her grandsons Justin and wife Kelly, Brandon Barnett and wife Sarai, and her great-grandson Braxton.

To honor her life, her family has planned a visitation on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. Her life celebration will be Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 10 AM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan, followed by internment at College Station Memorial Cemetery.
